Values are those things that are important to you and are strong enough to guide your life and career decision-making. Values help provide your life with meaning and purpose.  The questions below will help you to recognize and clarify your values as they pertain to your choice of a major and/or career.

  • What is important to you in life?

  • What is important to you in work?

  • How do you define success?

  • List and rank your top five life values.

  • List and rank your top five work values.

  • Are your work values compatible with your life values?

  • Are the majors/careers you are considering compatible with your values?  Do you see any conflicts?

Speaking with your academic advisor and/or a career consultant can help you to understand how your values relate to major and career options.  The following web link might also be of assistance. Values Assessment
